"The Tonberry is a fictional species from the Final Fantasy series and one of its recurring elements. It made its first appearance in Final Fantasy V, and has appeared in multiple subsequent Final Fantasy games. It is a salamander-like creature wearing a robe and carrying a knife and a lantern, who approaches slowly in order to do extreme, often fatal damage. While normally short in stature and "cute" in appearance, there have been multiple variants in the series, including the Tonberry King and a more realistic incarnation in Final Fantasy XVI. It was created by Tetsuya Nomura, who aspired to create a monster that would popularize Final Fantasy monsters like Dragon Quest monsters did."

It carried the heavy stillness of a deposed king who had seen his carefully constructed kingdom crumble, leaving only a deep, quiet disillusionment.
My task, in this strange dream, was to 'practice' it. Not command, not dominate, but to coax something back from its profound weariness. Iโd offer it a long, weathered branch, hoping it would take it and trace a new path, assert a gentle sovereignty over the leaf-strewn ground. But it would only nudge it with its nose, a sigh escaping its chest, a puff of visible mist in the cool air. There was a wistful ache in my chest, a longing to see the spark of purposeful control, the elegant structure of a true leader, rekindle in those depths, but it remained elusive, just a silent, profound understanding of a kingdom lost.
