Dream of the Day

Mood: wistful | Archetype: Wizard
Elements: damp rainbow sin

Dream Illustration

I was walking through a landscape that felt perpetually on the cusp of twilight, soft rain falling, not quite reaching the ground, evaporating into a fine mist. Everything was muted, steeped in shades of grey and lavender, and an aching stillness hung in the air. Then, it appeared โ€“ a rainbow, but unlike any I'd ever seen. It wasn't vibrant, but impossibly soft, a spectrum of pastel hues, clinging to the mist like a fragile, damp veil. It felt profoundly ancient, almost breathing, and carried with it a silent promise of forgotten secrets.

A deep, insistent hum began within me, a familiar stir of power and an unquenchable urge to understand, to *touch* the very fabric of its existence. It wasn't enough to merely witness; my hands ached to grasp, to unravel, to know its hidden mechanism. Like a wizard obsessed with the core of a spell, I reached out, not to destroy, but to dissect, to bend its light to my will, to internalize its ethereal mystery. I pulled at its nearest arc, feeling a strange resistance, a giving way that was less a breaking and more a profound sigh. The colors blurred, coalesced, and then, slowly, mournfully, began to seep away, bleeding into the damp air like watercolors dissolving on wet paper.

The moment of 'doing' was brief, a flash of immense, focused intent, but the aftermath stretched out, hollow and endless. I stood there, my hand still outstretched, the remnants of the rainbow a mere smear against the gathering gloom. The world felt emptier, the silence now deafening, and a profound, quiet regret settled over me, chilling me far more than the mist. I hadn't destroyed it out of malice, but from an overwhelming, perhaps arrogant, desire to *know* and to *command*, and in doing so, I had taken a piece of its delicate magic from the world, leaving only a wistful echo of its former beauty.
