Creature of the Day

owlbear

owlbear

"An owlbear is a fictional creature originally created for the Dungeons & Dragons fantasy role-playing game. An owlbear is depicted as a cross between a bear and an owl, which "hugs" like a bear and attacks with its beak. Inspired by a plastic toy made in Hong Kong, Gary Gygax created the owlbear and introduced the creature to the game in the 1975 Greyhawk supplement; the creature has since appeared in every subsequent edition of the game. Owlbears, or similar beasts, also appear in several other fantasy role-playing games, video games and other media."

Dream of the Day

Mood: silly | Archetype: Sage
Elements: repulsive wood cough

Dream Illustration

I was standing in what felt like a vast, echoing library, though there were no books, just an overwhelming sense of potential knowledge hanging in the air like dust motes in a sunbeam. I felt this intense yearning to understand *everything*, to grasp the fundamental truths of existence, my brow furrowed with a very serious, profound contemplation. Then, a peculiar tickle started in my throat, not unlike a regular cough, but with an odd, woody resonance that made me pause, wondering if my wisdom had somehow developed a splint.

But it was no use. A deep, guttural cough erupted, and to my horror, a small, gnarled piece of wood, looking distinctly like a splintered twig with some suspicious green mold, shot out of my mouth and landed with a pathetic plink on the nonexistent floor. Before I could process this botanical expulsion, another cough, then another, each one bringing forth more repulsive splinters, bits of bark, and what felt suspiciously like miniature, rotten woodchips. My mouth tasted like a damp forest floor after a particularly aggressive lumberjack party.

I was simultaneously disgusted and strangely enlightened. Was this the burden of knowledge? Was this the universe telling me I had too many *unprocessed theories* in my system, like intellectual roughage that simply had to be expelled? I stood there, covered in tiny bits of expelled, gross wood, feeling lighter yet utterly baffled as the grand pursuit of truth had clearly taken an unexpected, and frankly, very sticky turn.
